Drywall Repair in Fredericksburg, VA

Most drywall damage is small. A doorknob went through the wall, a crack keeps opening over a doorway, or a leak left a brown ring on the ceiling. It is still the first thing you see when you walk into the room. We do drywall repair in Fredericksburg and across Spotsylvania, Stafford and King George, from a single patch to a room full of cracks, and we leave the wall smooth and ready for paint.

Holes, cracks and water damage

Holes are the most common call: doorknobs, furniture, old wall anchors, a towel bar that pulled out. A small hole gets filled and built up with joint compound. A bigger one gets cut back to a clean square and filled with a new piece of drywall, then taped and finished like any other seam.

Cracks usually show up at the corners of doors and windows and along ceiling joints. Houses move a little every year. Humid Fredericksburg summers and dry, heated winters make the framing swell and shrink, and the drywall joints are where that movement shows. Painting over a crack rarely lasts. The repair that holds is to open the crack, re-tape the joint and feather new compound out well past the edges.

Water damage needs the leak dealt with first. If the cause is something we handle, like failed caulk around a window, we can fix that on the same job. Small flashing repairs are in our scope too. If it is a bigger roof problem or a plumbing line beyond the fixture, we tell you who to call. Once it is dry, we cut out any drywall that has gone soft, replace it and finish it to match.

Matching texture and getting to paint-ready

A patch shows when it sits proud of the wall or has a different surface from the paint around it. So the finishing matters as much as the fill. We skim-coat the repair, which means spreading thin coats of compound over a wider area and sanding between them, so the patch blends into the wall instead of sitting on it.

Texture matching is included on small and medium repairs. If your walls or ceiling have a texture, we match it so the repair disappears once it is painted. On a large area, we talk through the texture with you before we quote.

Paint-ready means you can prime and paint it yourself. If you would rather not, interior painting can be added to the same job. Painting is priced by room size and includes prep, primer and two coats as standard. Painting the whole wall, corner to corner, hides a repair far better than touching up the patch alone.

How drywall repair in Fredericksburg is priced

Drywall repair has a published starting price and a range, shown in the price list on this page. Where your job lands in that range depends on how many repairs there are, how large they are, and whether we are filling a hole or replacing water-damaged board. Drywall materials are not billed as a separate extra.

Send a few photos with a tape measure in the frame and we can usually tell you where the job falls. You get the price in writing before we start. If we open a wall and find more damage than the photos showed, we stop, show you, and re-quote before doing any more.

Many homes in the Stafford and Spotsylvania subdivisions were built from the 1980s on with drywall throughout. At that age, nail pops, seam cracks and the odd dented corner are normal wear, and they are exactly the kind of small repair this service is for.

Drywall Repair FAQs

Will the patch show after it is painted?
It should not. We feather the compound past the damage, match the texture and sand it smooth. For the best result, paint the whole wall rather than just the patch, because new paint rarely matches old paint exactly, even from the same can.
I filled a crack last year and it came back. Why?
Usually because the joint is still moving or the original tape has let go, and filler alone cannot bridge that. Re-taping the joint and finishing over a wider area holds up much better. If a crack keeps widening, or doors nearby have started sticking, it can point to settling. Foundation and structural work are outside our scope, and we will tell you if that is what we see.
Are drywall materials extra?
No. Drywall repair is quoted with materials included, and interior painting is too. Your written quote shows the full price before you approve it.
Can you paint the repair as well?
Yes. Interior painting can be added to the same job and is priced by room: a small bedroom, a typical living space, or a great room or whole floor.
Does a drywall repair take more than one trip?
Small repairs often do not. Joint compound needs time to dry between coats, so a larger repair or a water-damaged ceiling may need a return trip to finish. We tell you when we quote.
