Gutter Cleaning in Fredericksburg, VA

Gutters only work while water can run through them. Once leaves, pine needles, seed pods and roof grit pack into the trough, rain spills over the front edge instead, down the siding and into the soil along the foundation. We do gutter cleaning in Fredericksburg and across Spotsylvania, Stafford and King George: every run cleared, every downspout flushed, and a straight answer about anything we notice while we are up there.

What a gutter cleaning covers

We clear the troughs by hand along every run and lift out the packed material. Hand-clearing gets the wet layer at the bottom, which is usually what blocks the outlet into the downspout.

Then water goes down every downspout until it runs clear out the bottom. A blocked downspout is easy to miss from the ground. The gutter above looks empty while water backs up and spills over at the corner.

If a section has started to sag away from the fascia or a seam is dripping, we point it out and show you, so you know what you are dealing with before the next heavy rain.

Why clogged gutters cause bigger problems

Water that overflows a gutter lands right where you do not want it. It soaks the fascia board behind the gutter, streaks the siding below and pools at the foundation. Over a few seasons, that is how fascia and trim start to rot.

A gutter full of wet debris is also heavy. The weight pulls on the hangers until the run begins to sag, and a sagging run holds even more water. In a hard freeze, whatever is trapped in there adds to the load.

Clearing a gutter is a much smaller job than repairing what an overflowing one damages. If we find soft fascia while we are working, we show you. Wood rot repair is a separate service we can quote on the same visit.

How often to clean, and what affects it

Trees set the schedule more than the calendar does. A house under oaks, maples or tall pines can fill its gutters in a single autumn, and pines shed needles for much of the year. A house on an open lot with young trees may only need attention once a year.

As general guidance, many homeowners clean in late fall once the leaves are down, and again in spring after the seed pods and pollen. If water pours over the edge in an ordinary rain, or plants are growing in the trough, it is overdue. Fall cleaning is also part of our winter prep packages.

How gutter cleaning in Fredericksburg is priced

Gutter cleaning has a published starting price, shown in the price list on this page. The final figure depends on how much gutter the house has, how many downspouts there are and how hard the runs are to reach. There is no separate materials charge.

Tell us about the house or send a photo from the street, and you get the price in writing before we book. The price covers the cleaning described here, and nothing is added once we are on the ladder.

Gutter Cleaning FAQs

Will you tell me if my gutters need work beyond cleaning?
Yes. Sagging sections, leaking seams and downspouts that have pulled away are easy to spot from the ladder, and we point them out while we are up there. If the fascia behind a gutter has gone soft, that is wood rot repair, which we can quote separately.
How often should gutters be cleaned?
At least once a year for most houses, usually in late fall. Homes under heavy tree cover often need a second cleaning in spring.
Do you install gutter guards?
No. We clean gutters and flush downspouts, but we do not sell or install gutter guards.
Is gutter cleaning billed by the hour?
No. It has a published starting price, and your exact price is in writing before we book, so the clock is not running while we work.
Why does water still spill over after the gutters are cleaned?
Usually a blocked downspout or a run that has sagged and lost its slope. That is why every downspout gets flushed, and why we point out any run that has dropped out of line.
